WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-09) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, House Republican’s border package that will secure the border and combat illegal immigration:

“With Title 42 set to expire in a few hours, House Republicans have passed the strongest border security bill Congress has ever seen,” said Rep. Hudson. “House Republicans are addressing the issues the American people care about, while extreme Democrats are ignoring them.”

The Secure the Border Act has two fundamental goals of securing the border and combating illegal immigration. In addition, the legislation will:

  • Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall
  • Deploy technology to the Southern and Northern border
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
  • End catch and release
  • End abuse of executive immigration authority
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process
