Moore County commissioners may attend veterans ceremony; no official business planned

A quorum of the Moore County Board of Commissioners may attend a Welcome Home Ceremony for Vietnam Veterans at Sandhills Community College’s Dempsey Center in Pinehurst on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The event will take place at 3395 Airport Road.

According to Jennifer Parks, Clerk to the Board, “Although a quorum of the Board may be present, no official business will be conducted, and no actions will be taken during this event.”

Recent data from Moore County school districts show that college readiness rates among students remain below half across several ACT subject areas. For example, in the 2022-23 school year, about 29.4% of senior students and 27.6% of junior students who took the science portion of the ACT were considered ready for college (source). In reading, 36.1% of seniors and 36.6% of juniors met college readiness benchmarks (source). Math scores showed that 25.9% of seniors and 23.6% of juniors were deemed ready for college-level work (source).
