Career Training Classes to Begin Soon at SCC

Education

Sandhills Community College issued the following announcement on Jan. 14.

Earn your automotive inspection licenses, become a Notary Public, or learn how to read blueprints this February through Sandhills Community College’s Continuing Education Career Training division. These classes are ideal for someone who is unemployed or wishes to change jobs and needs to learn a new skill or train in fast order.

Automotive

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license.

Held on Monday, Feb. 7, and Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 6-10 p.m., “Auto Safety Inspection” will cost $75.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is Certified Auto Safety Inspection. This is also a Recertification Class.

Held on Monday, Feb. 21 and Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 6-10 p.m., “OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will cost $75.

Business

A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Students should prepare to have proof of a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.

Held on Friday, Feb. 25 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., “Notary Public” will cost $75 plus the cost of text.

Construction

“Blueprint Reading & Estimating” covers blueprint basics, specifications, site plans and architectural plans.  Quantity takeoffs and pricing will be taught.

Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 1-May 5 from 6-9 p.m., “Blueprint Reading & Estimating” will cost $185 plus the cost of text.

Registration

Seats are still available for these classes. To register, call Continuing Education at (910) 695-3980 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. All major credit cards are accepted. Pre-register at sandhills.edu/cereg. Pre-registrations must be made two days before class starts.

Spring Semester

Sandhills is offering free tuition for all for the second 8-week session of curriculum classes which begin on March 14. Classes will be offered in-person, online, and in hybrid class formats, take only eight weeks to complete, and award full college credits. See www.sandhills/eight for all information.

Continuing Education classes begin throughout the semester.

CCP Classes for High School Students

Local high school students can take classes at SCC when a junior and senior. Those successfully completing four CCP classes qualify for the Sandhills Promise.
