Summer is the perfect time to earn college credits, prepare for a new career field, or take an existing skill even further. Summer curriculum session C classes begin on June 28. Continuing Education will offer summer classes in automotive inspections and a new class to prepare landscape irrigation classes will also be offered. Or maybe you want to learn to line dance or Tai students to obtain the Class A Learners Permit for a commercial license. Notary, healthcare, and Chi. SCC will have three classes in each. The Fire Academy begins in mid-July and an EMT Basic class will be offered, as will computer and internet classes. No matter how you choose to spend your summer, we’ll help make it count.
Automotive
In “Auto Safety Inspection” students will be certified to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. You must have a valid driver’s license for this class. Held Monday and Tuesday, June 6-7 from 6-10 p.m., the class this class will cost $75.
In “OBD Emissions Control Inspection” students will be certified to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also a Recertification Class. Held on Monday and Tuesday, June 27-28 from 6-10 p.m., the class this class will cost $75.
“Commercial Learners Permit Prep” provides training in inspecting tractor-trailers and assuming driver responsibilities. Emphasis is placed on defensive driving, federal motor carrier safety regulations, vehicle systems, hours of service, and accident prevention. Upon completion, trainees should be able to demonstrate the knowledge to pass the required tests to obtain a class “A” learner’s permit for the commercial driver’s license. Held on Tuesday-Thursdays, July 12-21 from 6-9 p.m., scholarships are available for this class.
Business
A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Students should prepare to have proof of a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions. Held on Tuesday, June 7 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on the Pinehurst campus, this class will cost $75 plus the cost of text. An additional class will be offered on Tuesday, July 19 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Hoke Center.
Healthcare
“Medical Terminology” covers the basic human anatomy and physiology for all systems, laboratory medicine, pharmacology, elements of medical terms and names of major diseases, including terms used in physical exams, operative procedures and diagnosis. Prepares you for Continuing Education Health Care certification classes. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays online, July 12-Sept 1 from 5:30-9:30 p.m., this class will cost $185 plus the cost of text.
“Medication Administration Aide” allows students to meet the training requirements for the NC Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification, this class prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to skilled nursing facility residents. Course topics include the scope of duties, legal and ethical responsibilities, administration of medications by various routes, infection control and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. “Nurse Aide Level 1 Refresher” this 40-hour program is for those whose listing has expired on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry or those with a state-recognized or military healthcare credential. There will be 10 hours of required online work. It is imperative that you attend all virtual meetings. Eligible individuals must have completed a state-approved Nurse Aide I program and have a certificate or transcript supporting completion. Held Monday-Friday, July 11-15 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., this class will cost $130 plus the cost of text.
Landscaping
In “Landscape Irrigation” students will learn basic irrigation practices for homeowners and beyond. Learn the principles of a home irrigation system and basic troubleshooting skills. How to check, repair and troubleshoot while discussing landscape needs and scheduling for the Sandhills region. Water conservation and micro-climate identification, as site requirements differ. Held Tuesdays, June 7-28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., this class will cost $75.
Dance Classes
“Introduction to Line Dance” is for the absolute beginner. If you lack the confidence to dance at social events, this class is for you. We will take the time to learn basic steps and patterns to build your coordination and confidence on the dance floor. Students will learn popular dances like the Electric Slide, Cupid Shuffle, and Copperhead Road. After six weeks you will be ready for the Beginner + Line Dance class. Held on Mondays, June 6-July 18 from 5-6 p.m., this class will cost $45.
“Line Dancing- Beginner” is for students interested in learning dance moves and building confidence on the dance floor. We’ll begin with the basics, and you’ll be kicking up your heels before you know it. Leave your inhibitions at the door, and join in. The latest in country music will move us through fun choreographed dances. After six weeks, you’ll feel fearless on the dance floor at any party/event. Held on Mondays, June 6-July 18 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
“Line Dancing- Improver” is for students who have been dancing for some time and mastered basic steps, it’s time to tackle more complex moves. This course is for non-beginner dancers. We’ll experience more counts, fun moves, and great music to move towards an improved foundation of dance. Held on Thursdays, June 9-July 21 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
Tai Chi
In “Tai Chi Basics” students will learn soft, slow, graceful movements to help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance. Tai Chi movements are approached in a mindful attitude and never forced; the muscles relaxed rather than tensed. There is no impact to aggravate joints and can be performed standing or even sitting making it the perfect activity to improve and maintain your physical function and quality of life. The class will use the Yang 24 form and various Qi Gong movements. No special equipment needed and dress comfortably. Held on Mondays and Wednesday, June 1-July 27 from 10-11 a.m., this class will cost $78.
In “Tai Chi Practice” students will improve and refine postures learned in Tai Chi Basics. Learn several Qi Gong exercises for enhanced stress reduction and improved wellness and practice the Beijing Form (working knowledge required). No special equipment needed and dress comfortably. Held on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 1-July 27 from 11 a.m.-noon, this class will cost $78.
“Rejuvenation Tai Chi” is a stationary class designed for those who might not be able to participate in other forms of activity. Featuring slow, soft movement is designed to be performed seated or standing with an emphasis on improving balance and muscle tone. No special equipment needed and dress comfortably. Held on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 1-July 27 from 1-2 p.m., this class will cost $78.
Finance
In “Wealth Strategies for Retirees” students will learn how to safeguard their retirement portfolio in uncertain times. Class will cover properly balancing portfolios, asset allocation vs. asset location, how to dissect mutual funds, safe stock market strategies, income during retirement, tax strategies and more. Held on Wednesdays, June 8-29 from 1-2:30p.m., this class will cost $35.
Public Safety
“EMT Basic” prepares students to provide emergency care for the sick and injured. Students will learn to respond to a variety of emergency medical situations. Upon successful completion, the student can sit for the state certification exam. Course requirements: a copy of your high school or GED diploma by first night of class. Additional costs for course specific clinicals. Pre-Requisites: Must have 11th grade reading level on TABE reading test given first night of class. If lower than 11th grade, must enroll in EMS Skills of Success class in conjunction with EMT class. Held on alternating Saturdays, July 9-December 3 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., this class will cost $180 plus a $5 tech fee plus the cost of text.
In the “Fire Academy” students will train for a career as a firefighter. Free tuition for current volunteer firefighters. Certifications earned in the course are Firefighter I/II, Materials Ops, Technical Rescuer, and Emergency Vehicle Driver. The program incorporates EMT-Basic and prepares students to sit for the state certification exam. Microsoft
In “Microsoft Office Overview” students will learn a little of everything that Microsoft Office offers. Sessions will be on Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Publisher, and One Note. Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 21-August 30 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Windows 10-Level 1.5” students will learn the Windows 10 operating system by combining the basics with more advanced skills. Discover Windows applications, terminology, and Start Menu functions as well as operational basics and beyond. Students should have access to the Windows 10 operating system. Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 6-July 14 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75 plus the cost of a flash drive.
Internet
In “Better Internetting” students will learn how to make the Internet more useful and get more out of it. Held on Fridays, July 22-August 26 from 2-4 p.m., this class will cost $75.
“Getting Started with Google Drive” students will receive a basic introduction to Google Drive as a file management resource, which will allow you access to your files anytime you have Internet access. Learn to use Google’s simple, flexible file and document sharing features. Become familiar with Google’s excellent suite of office software, including Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Drawings, and Google Forms. Held on Mondays, June 6- July 25 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Social Media Communication Skills” students will learn Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok & more. Held on Fridays, June 10-July 15 from 2-4 p.m., this class will cost $75.

Fall Semester
A fall semester flightPath publication will be mailed to all Moore and Hoke County homes mid-July and will contain information about the Continuing Education classes set to begin August through December and all curriculum programs.
Curriculum classes will begin on August 15. In addition to the traditional 16-week semester, there will be two eight-week sessions, one beginning August 15 and the second October 12. Students can take a mix of full-semester classes alongside eight-week sessions.
CCP Classes for High School Students
Local high school students can take classes at SCC when a junior and senior. Those successfully completing four CCP classes qualify for the Sandhills Promise.
