Winter is just around the corner-heat up your cooking skills. Join us for a culinary class where you can learn to bake fresh bread, decorate sugar cookies or a gingerbread house, build an edible Olaf, or improve your weekly dinners. No matter which class you choose, our instructors will teach you everything you need to know to impress grandma at Thanksgiving meal. If you need a place to drop off your children while you take a class, the Boys and Girls program at SCC is available to you.
“Knife Skills” will teach you how to reduce knife accidents by learning sharpening and cutting techniques you can practice and use every day. Chicken wings and legs will be baked in class by students after learning how to properly break down a whole chicken. Held on Wednesday, November 9 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Pasta Making” students are going to mix and cut homemade pasta, learn the different types of pasta and how you can use them in cooking to make your meals amazing and well rounded. Butter noodles in white wine cream sauce to be prepared in class. Held on Wednesday, November 16 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “African Cuisine,” students will explore the trending African cuisine, hoping to find some new flavors and dishes that can surprise guests right from home. Kuku paka or plasas to be prepared in class. Held on Monday, November 14 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
“Let’s Get Saucy” is all about sauces. The mother sauces will be created in class, and you will also dive into the derivatives of these sauces. How and when to use what sauce and what flavors enhance our flavors. Small bites to taste chicken, beef, and broccoli sauces. Held on Monday, November 14 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Mouthwatering Mushrooms,” students will explore different types of mushrooms to use in the kitchen and how to cook with these amazing fungi. Portabella Alfredo to be prepared in class. Held on Monday, November 28 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Detroit Pizza Making” students will have the chance to make and sample this latest trend. This hands-on experience will teach students the history of the dish and how to make all components of the pizza from its fluffy and crispy crust to the cheesy mouthwatering top. You’ll leave with your pizza cravings quenched and take-home recipes to try. Held on Tuesday, November 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Plant-Based Cooking” students will take a dive into plant-based proteins that can fulfill your hunger and help balance your nutrition. Plant-based cooking can be a very healthy alternative to most diets. Let’s explore how you can make it tasty and balanced. Eggplant Parmesan, Stuffed Peppers, or seasonal plant-based entrée to be prepared in class. Held on Thursday, November 15 from 6-8 p.m., this class will cost $75. An additional class will be offered on Wednesday, November 30 from 6-8 p.m.
In “Fall Sugar Cookies” students will transform sugar cookies. Decorate cookies with royal icing into various looks like pumpkins, a slice of pumpkin pie, fall leaves all with royal icing. Held on Thursday, November 10 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Fresh Breads in a Hurry” students will learn how to make some quick and delicious breads. We will make dinner rolls to complete any meal, yummy cinnamon/salted butter pretzels and a quick rise focaccia bread. Held on Friday, November 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., this class will cost $75.
In “Gingerbread House” students will have some holiday fun while decorating a gingerbread masterpiece. Chef will demonstrate how to assemble a house from the beginning. We will have your gingerbread house already baked and glued together for you. With icing and candy provided all you need to do is come and learn some tricks to take home and impress your holiday guests. When you are done you get to leave with your creation in hand. Held on Friday, December 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., this class will cost $75.
Do you want to build a snowman? In “Snowman Cake” students will transform a 6-inch round cake into a fun snowman that won’t melt! Held on Monday, December 5 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., this class will cost $75.
