Safely handling raw meats is very important to prevent foodborne illness. Meats should be purchased last when at the grocery store and immediately stored in the refrigerator or freezer. When preparing raw meat, you should always wash your hands and sanitize all food surfaces that the food touched. Never return cooked meats to the same container the raw meat was in.
Today, our 4-H Agent Miranda Thompson and our FCS Agent, Rhonda Peters worked with students at Wescare Christian Academy Troy, NC to learn about the importance of fats and making healthy decisions while also practicing food preparation skills. Students practiced making baked chicken nuggets and taking the temperature to be sure food was done. Remember, you can NEVER tell if meat is done just by looking.
