MCTXSheriff Celebrates 185 Years with Museum Grand Opening

The Republic of Texas Congress created Montgomery County on December 14, 1837, officially becoming the third county in Texas.  In December, we had the privilege to celebrate 185 years of Texas pride and our contributions to our great State.  The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office joined the rich heritage of this county in 1837 with our first Sheriff, Joshua Robbins, and has progressed to this day under the leadership of Sheriff Rand Henderson.  Our citizens have seen their law enforcement officers go from horseback on dirt roads to interstate highways with patrol vehicles equipped with computers and the latest-generation technology.

To honor this history, Sheriff Henderson authorized the men and women of MCSO to create this beautiful museum featuring artifacts from the many years of service and showcasing our rich story.  Admission to the museum is free; however, the public grand opening will be on March 7, 2023, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The museum will be staffed by Montgomery County Citizens Academy Alumni Association volunteers and open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The Sheriff’s Museum will be able to provide a space for training and presentations and host group tours upon request.  To book or reserve a private tour for a large group or for more information, email us at https://www.mctxsheriff.org/museum/index.php.

Sheriff Henderson stated: “This museum showcases our 185-year journey and displays historical artifacts that would otherwise be lost.  Reflecting on our history, how far we have come, and how bright the future is for Montgomery County is humbling.  Reflecting on the past is profoundly inspiring and challenges us to continue to lead, innovate, and honor our rich history of public safety service.”

To our amazing family and friends, this is your Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office!
