Hudson, Energy and Commerce Committee Announce North Carolina Field Hearing on Securing America’s Grid

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy Rodgers (R-WA) and Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee Chair Jeff Duncan (R-SC) June 9 announceda field hearing in Moore County titled “Enhancing America’s Grid Security and Resilience.”   

“Protecting the electric grid in our region and across the country is crucial to our national security and the wellbeing of all Americans,” said Rep. Hudson. “As Moore County’s Congressman, I am committed to finding solutions to strengthen our power grid in order to protect my constituents and prevent energy infrastructure attacks from happening again. I look forward to bringing my House colleagues to North Carolina next week.”

In December 2022, two electric substations in Moore County were intentionally attacked and resulted in widespread power outages that affected 45,000 customers and lasted several days. An investigation into the attack is ongoing. 

Following the attack, Rep. Hudson toured the impacted substation and met with Duke Energy and the Department of Energy to further discuss the importance of securing the region's energy grid.
