WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) this week welcomed Mya Hausauer of Pinehurst to Washington, D.C. in recognition of her artwork being hung in the U.S. Capitol. Mya’s artwork, titled The Baptism, will be hung in the U.S. Capitol alongside winning entries from congressional districts across the country for one year.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Mya to Washington D.C. and have the chance to discuss her artwork,” said Rep. Hudson. “It’s an honor to display the work of our district’s talented young artists in the U.S. Capitol and in my offices, and I look forward to seeing Mya’s beautiful artwork as I walk to the Capitol building.”

Mya’s artwork, The Baptism, is made from charcoal and oil paint on mixed medium paper.

In May, Rep. Hudson announced the three winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition from North Carolina’s 9th District.

The winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition from North Carolina’s 9th District included:

  • First Place – Mya Hausauer of Pinehurst, Pinecrest High School, The Baptism
  • Second Place – Jae Hee Shin of Cary, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Distorted Reflection
  • Third Place – Emma Johnson of Sanford, Southern Lee High School, Self Portrait

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. North Carolina’s 9th Congressional Art Competition is judged by a committee who reviewed submissions earlier this year.
