U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC), a member of the House Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee, has been awarded the Global Down Syndrome Foundation's (GLOBAL) Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award for his advocacy work in Congress supporting individuals with Down syndrome.
In response to receiving the award, Rep. Hudson stated, “People with Down syndrome enrich our world in unique ways. GLOBAL is paving the way for people who are differently-abled so they can live their lives to their full potential with no barriers or bias or obstacles standing in their way. I am honored to support their efforts and to receive this award, and will continue advocating for policies that improve the lives of people with Down syndrome.”
Michelle Sie Whitten, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of GLOBAL expressed her gratitude towards Congressman Hudson for his contributions. She said, “At GLOBAL, we are working hard every day to elongate life and improve health outcomes for our loved ones with Down syndrome. To have such overwhelming bi-partisan support –from NIH scientists to self-advocates with Down syndrome to corporate leaders – celebrating the impact of our work is extremely rewarding and appreciated."
Amy Navejas, Executive Director of the North Carolina Down Syndrome Alliance also acknowledged Rep. Hudson's efforts saying that he is a key leader within the E&C Committee where he oversees policy affecting those with Down syndrome.
GLOBAL is recognized as the largest non-profit organization in the U.S., dedicated to improving health outcomes and saving lives of people with Down syndrome. It was established by Anna and John J. Sie along with their daughter Michelle Sie Whitten who currently serves as its President and CEO.
