Town of Vass issued the following announcement on July 30.
Folks, Most everyone met at 8:00 am yesterday at CCMS to beat the heat, and we accomplished our goal of spreading the remainder of the compost by 9:30!
The garden area is now clear for the school to have their Ice Cream Social on August 6th.
Many thanks to Dee & Rich Kirschke, Bonnie & Jon Laurich, Angela Vacek, John German and Crystal Cianchetta for making yesterday a successful event.
In his own class however, is Ron Kelly. For the month of July, Ron has logged 27.5 hours ON HIS OWN. He has watered and weeded the garden to where it is ready for the new school year and students to begin work there. THANKS Ron - nicely done!
There will be at least one additional volunteer work day before classes begin, but that will be at Vass-Lakeview Elementary School. They have asked me to track down some leaks in their irrigation system and I think that will be a good opportunity for us to weed & amend the soil in the raised beds there. More info to follow.
In the meantime - THANK YOU to everyone that made this summer season in the CCMS garden so successful. This was not easy given the average NC summer temps these days, and you completed a ton (literally) of work there. You folks are the best!
