U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-09) has announced the winners of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition from North Carolina's 9th District. The competition, an annual event sponsored by the Congressional Institute, is designed to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students across the nation.

"The Congressional Art Competition is an incredible opportunity to highlight the artistic talents of our District’s high school students, and I was very impressed by all of the submissions we received this year," said Rep. Hudson. "I congratulate this year's winners and thank everyone who participated in the competition. I look forward to showcasing their artwork in the Capitol and my office."

The winning selections for North Carolina's 9th District are as follows:

First Place - Eva Abernathy of Apex, Seaforth High School, for her piece titled "She is the Flame".

Second Place - Thomas Thrower of Chapel Hill, Seaforth High School, for his work "Mending Wall".

Third Place - Alyson Stites of West End, Pinecrest High School, for her "Self Portrait".

The first-place winner’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The second place piece will hang in Rep. Hudson’s Washington, D.C. office, while third place will be showcased in his Southern Pines office.

The Congressional Art Competition has been held annually since its inception in 1982 by the Congressional Institute. Over 650,000 high school students have participated in this event over its history. The competition entries for North Carolina’s 9th District were judged by a committee of local artists who reviewed submissions earlier this year.
