Moore County issued the following announcement on May 12.
On May 12th, the Moore County Health Department was notified of the death a Moore County resident whose death was determined to be related to COVID-19 infection. The individual passed away on May 9th . Today’s reported death brings Moore County’s total to ten deaths that have been attributed to COVID-19 thus far. In total, there have been 162 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Moore County to date. To protect privacy, no further information about the individuals who have tested positive will be shared by the Health Department.
Moore County Health Department staff are monitoring the individuals who have tested positive and will follow up with anyone who is identified as a close contact. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines “close contact” as being within six feet for 10 minutes or more.
Although Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order 138 and phased plan may ease some of the previous restrictions regarding COVID-19, the Moore County Health Department and North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services (NCDHHS) encourage everyone to “Know Their W’s” and continue to exercise caution when out in public:
o Wear a cloth face covering if you will be around other people
o Wait six feet apart and avoid close contact
o Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer
In addition to these measures, everyone is urged continue to adhere to the following guidelines:
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home, especially if you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve/elbow or with a tissue and be sure to throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
