The Pinehurst village manager is optimistic that the municipality is financially capable of absorbing monetary impacts current or future as a result of COVID-19.
Village Manager Jeff Sanborn's projections were reported in The Pilot on May 18, where he also said that there are some "pretty big unknowns," when it comes to adjusting to the coronavirus while presenting the 2021 municipal budget.
“Primarily the message I want everyone to hear is that we have [the] capacity,” Sanborn told the council, The Pilot reported. “We can deal with this. We don’t know how it is going to turn out yet. We’re going to be alright.”
Sanborn told the council that there are big unknowns and assumptions built into the budget, as well as the village's five-year plan, The Pilot reported.
The $21.6 million budget proposal would raise the property tax rate a half-cent to 30.5 cents for every $100 of value, The Pilot reported.
The budget proposal is for $21.6 million and calls for a property tax increase of a half-cent to 30.5 cents for every $100 of value, the news agency reported. The five-year plan, which was developed in 2019, also recommends half-cent increments in the rate and caps out at 32 cents by 2024.
The annual increases will raise money to help the village's operating budget deal with hikes in expenses, The Pilot reported.
