North Carolina Sen. Tom McInnis (R-Anson) proposed legislation to bring changes to the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport Commission, including making it an authority.
The bill, which would remain the airport commission the Southeast Regional Airport Authority, would increase the board size by one, bringing it to seven people, the Laurinburg Exchange reported on May 27.
If approved, the bill will be implemented on Jan. 1, and last for two years. It will also have the ability to be renewed for two terms, the Laurinburg Exchange reported.
It also requires "the Authority to annually report to the Laurinburg City Council, Maxton Town Council, and the Scotland County Board of Commissioners regarding operations and transactions conducted pursuant to the act. Prohibits the Authority from pledging the credit of or imposing any obligation on either city, town, or county unless expressly granted by law," the Laurinburg Exchange reported.
Laurinburg City Council, Maxton Town Council and Scotland County Board of Commissioners would also have to agree and approve upon funds to appropriate to the bill, the Laurinburg Exchange reported.
