North Carolina Senate candidate Cal Cunningham (Democrat) supports the Pro Act, which will cause problems for right-to-work laws.
The Pro Act is federal legislation that would abolish all right-to-work laws in the state.
Right-to-work legislation collectively protects employees from having to join employee unions.
According to reports, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the bill. Additionally, if Democrats win the Senate in November, the Pro Act may become law, the Carolina Journal reported.
California has also passed legislation that can be compared to the Pro Act. According to the Carolina Journal, the legislation makes it hard for delivery drivers, truckers, and freelance writers to get multiple jobs because the law forced employers to treat freelancers as employees.
According to a research brief produced by Terry Stoops, vice president of research and director of education studies at the conservative think tank John Locke Foundation, the law would cost North Carolina taxpayers millions of dollars and damage public services.
